She amassed her first career collegiate shutout in an impressive 3-0 win over Syracuse in January 2012. In October 2013, Chelsea was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month and became a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team selection.

Although she decided to end her career as an ice hockey player after graduating from Quinnipiac, she was able to sign her first professional contract when Dani Rylan founded PHF (then NWHL) that summer. Her contract was worth $14,000 in the Connecticut Whale.

At the time, each NWHL team had a $270,000 cap on spending on their 18 players, and the league's minimum salary was $10,000 over the season. On a per-game basis, each NWHL athlete would make at least $555.55.

Retired ice hockey player

During her ice hockey career, she initially played in Connecticut Whale and later the New York Riveters of the PHF. Her career saw her become ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week, three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team selection, and ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month.

In late October 2015, Laden made her PHF debut after signing her first professional contract with the Connecticut Whale. She backstopped four third-period penalty kills in a win over the Buffalo Beauts. It marked the first away win in Whale franchise history.

Following a severe finger injury, Laden had to miss several months of the season. In February 2016, she was traded to the New York Riveters. However, she decided to end her ice hockey career the same year.
