Fans have been wondering if James Corden is replacing Gary Linekar as host of Match of the Day after he revealed he will be leaving the role from 'The Late Late Show'. Scroll below to find more. 

Gary Winston Lineker is a former professional footballer and current sports broadcaster from England. Lineker made his England debut in 1984 and went on to earn 80 caps and 48 goals in an eight-year international career.

His media career began with the BBC, where he presented Match of the Day, the flagship football program. Lineker is also the BBC's lead presenter for live football matches. 

Likewise, Linekar has also done international tournament coverage. He has also worked for Al Jazeera Sports, Eredivisie Live, NBC Sports Network, and BT Sport's UEFA Champions League coverage.

He is regarded as one of England's greatest strikers.

Is Gary Lineker Leaving Match Of The Day? 

There have been rumors that Gary Lineker might be leaving his duty as the host of Match Of The Day. Lineker has announced his departure from BT Sport in May 2021, however, he hadn't mentioned if he was also leaving his presenting duties at the BBC. 

The Match of the Day host and former England forward has stated that he wishes to take break. Corden, a known West Ham fan, has admitted to feeling homesick in the past. 

Lineker had been the face of BT Sport's Champions League coverage since the channel first acquired rights to the tournament six years ago. Though he had signed a new five-year deal with the BBC in 2020, he decided to leave to spend more time with his children. 

Following his retirement from professional football, he pursued a career in the media, beginning with BBC Radio 5 Live.

Twitter users have been speculating James Corden might replace Gary Linekar as a host of Match of the Day. Lineker has acknowledged rumors of Corden replacing him on Match of the Day.

Lineker quote tweeted the story, simply adding the 'eyes' emoji, in response to a news article. The article suggested Corden was a strong contender' to replace Lineker on the BBC's flagship football program. 

The speculations started surfacing following his announcement that he would be leaving 'The Late Late Show.' Lineker has made no indication that he will leave the position he has held since 1999.

Corden has yet to respond to the rumors, but he has spoken about leaving The Late Late Show.

What Happened To Gary Lineker?

Gary Lineker seems to be doing well in his life, as per his social media activities. Though people have been speculating he is retiring from his position as a host, he has yet to comment on anything. 

Meanwhile, the spokesman at Paddy Power stated that as Lineker has been host for such a long time, it is hard to imagine Saturday night without him.
