Actor James Kirkland stars as Santa In Rakuten 2022 Christmas Commercial.

On or around October 30, 2022, Rakuten released its most recent TV ad, showing a stylish Santa Claus.

The Santa Claus in the ad instructs one of his elves about the company's Cash Back function. Finding out who the actor hiding the beard is piques many people's curiosity.

The 30-second commercial is titled "Holidays: Cash Back You Can Believe In." It has already received plaudits for its portrayal of Father Christmas. And he stands out from more traditional conceptions of the great gift-giver in the sky because of his smooth, white-gray hair and pointy mustache.

Interestingly, a 15-second version of Rakuten's TV advertisement has amassed approximately 900,000 views on YouTube in only six days. And on November 1, 2022, it became operational on the platform. Nearly a million people have viewed the complete version.

James Kirkland Lands The Role Of Santa Claus In Rakuten Christmas Commercial

Rakuten has enlisted actor James Kirkland to portray Santa Claus, aka Father Christmas, in its new Christmas 2022 commercial.

The commercial, titled "Cash Back You Can Believe In," shows Kirkland's character discussing Rakuten and its Cash Back function with one of his elves. As the two are going through the present factory line, where he doesn't hesitate to praise some of the elves for their work, Santa tells his helper that he doesn't want to tell him what to believe in and that he believes in Rakuten.

The advertisement ends suddenly with Santa and the elf leaving the premises to find the gift-filled, reindeer-drawn sleigh waiting for them. A line that appears on-screen prompts viewers to download the app, shop, and save.

One featured Kirkland supervising a recording session with 123 Sesame Street residents Ernie and Bert. 

Along with Martin Landau, Luis Chavez, Kali Muscle, and others, he also portrayed a bowler in Mike's Hard Lemonade TV commercial "Anytime" from 2013. Also, the actor has made cameo appearances on screen in Happy Endings and Community Breaking In.

So far, reactions to his most recent appearance in the Rakuten Christmas ad have been positive. One Twitter user mentioned Rakuten and said they "liked this commercial" after posting a closeup of James Kirkland's face as Santa.

While some have linked Kirkland's Santa to John Hamm's picture of Father Christmas for the 2022 FIFA Men's World Cup, others have questioned the "tailored suit" and slimness of Rakuten's version.

Loving the commercial, one of Kirkland's Facebook followers called it the "role of a lifetime." His post has been linked more than 130 times and received over 50 comments at the time of writing.
