Quick catch-up on season one…
However, as we’re just about to throw ourselves into season two’s main events, let’s rewind a moment and have a look at how the first season ended. The season was set around an intelligent and ambitious high school student named Pip Fitz-Amobi and what a school project handed to her would lead her to…
At the start of season one it was thought that Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh and the latter committed suicide, however, Pip was convinced something else was going on. Pip, with the help of Sal’s brother Ravi Singh, investigated and uncovered old secrets and unexpected suspects that proved to be more twisted than anyone could have imagined. The season was acclaimed for its captivating plot and brilliant characters as well as Pip and Ravi’s wonderful chemistry. The successful adaptation of the young adult novel paves the way for season two and continues to lead the charge for exciting new reads.
What Is Season 2 About?

Pip does not wish for any more work as a detective. So far in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder all she wants to do is put what happened in the Andie Bell case behind her and get back into revising, friendships, and her own life. But when Jamie Reynolds disappears without a trace she simply cannot seem to keep out of another case. When Jamie is found to be involved in the current court case involving Max Hastings’s case there are clear problems as people do not know what has happened to him. Pip struggles at first and tries not to interfere but with clues mounting, things get more and more strange. Pip finally can no longer stand by, knowing somebody has disappeared with seemingly no one trying to look for them. Quickly, the case becomes more dangerous than Pip could have ever imagined.
A More Mature Storyline
What differs Season 1 from Season 2 is the tone. Season 1 is based around a secret that had been buried for years; however, Season 2 focuses on what the implications are when it has been unearthed. No longer are we with the novice student investigating the old mystery but Pip is more aware of the dangers in this new investigation and is affected emotionally by the previous one. Through this new knowledge the writers build the narrative into something that can be taken more seriously and is not about piecing together the clues but about Pip having to come to terms with the emotional stress, the publicity and being seen as the unofficial detective.
Emma Myers Shines as Pip Fitz-Amobi
Another part of the reason why this show worked is how amazing Emma Myers is as Pip. Last season Pip was the intelligent and determined Pip with endless questions but this season she’s even better as Pip is now more emotional and more of a victim then we have ever seen her. The fact that Pip is still able to solve all of her hard-headed issues and is so brave but at the same time you see Pip being fearful, upset and self-doubting in ways we have never really seen before are all elements that Myers excels in, she truly makes Pip believeable as she has to balance her emotions and the issues in front of her. Seeing all of Pip’s feelings towards her friends and how much of a toll this all has on her really makes successes and failures worth more for viewers and really sets home how emotional it all is as the stakes continue to rise. She only has continued to do amazing work throughout the course of the show as she seems to be doing some of her career best performances and it’s no wonder why she’s one of the biggest young actors in television right now.
Ravi Singh Continues to Be a Fan Favorite
Ravi Singh. One would not have an entire discussion about A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder without him.
Ravi, played by Zain Iqbal is one of the most popular characters. His kindness, and devotion as well as his humor provide a perfect contrast to the otherwise very dark series. The relation between Pip and Ravi grows much stronger in season 2.Their dynamic feels authentic and natural which fans really enjoyed while the murder mystery was still at the center. The two share various heartwarming moments that contribute to the growth of their relationship.
They are not focused so much on a romantic relationship, but rather a partnership built on trust, friendship and team work that is both easy on the eyes and allows the characters to mature individually. Most people find the dynamic between Pip and Ravi to be one of the biggest strengths of the series and they proved this in season 2.
The Mystery at the Heart of the Season
The key to a good mystery series lies in not revealing too much. The show should leave the viewer guessing. Fortunately for series 2, they hit that nail on the head! The unexplained disappearance of Jamie Reynolds creates an intrigue packed season full of suspect, secrets and dark desires. Throughout each episode more details are revealed, but only seem to raise even more questions. The way the investigation has been written is excellent and none of the clues are given away too easily so you find yourself theorizing throughout the season. Once the viewer believes they know the answer a sudden twist is thrown in and they are forced to completely reconsider. This makes the series exciting, unpredictable and very much deserving of the good reputation series 2 has.
Strong Supporting Characters
Another one of the great aspects of season 2 is the supporting cast. Even though the case and characters focus around Pip and Ravi, so many of the people in the show get screen time and character development. Friends, family, suspects and witnesses are all important aspects of the case, each brings to the story new twists to the case in the form of clues, emotional support or added tension. The support cast don’t just fill up the space, all the characters have their own goals and secrets.
Themes That Go Beyond the Mystery
Beyond being a mystery drama, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a series that also examines various significant issues.
Truth seeking
Essentially the series is about searching for the truth. Pip refuses to settle for answers given easily and never shies away from challenging questions, she inspires us to never settle for an explanation we are not sure of and shows the importance of determination and logical thinking.
The consequences of seeking justice
Season 2 also touches upon the personal sacrifice for justice, it has been seen that investigations can expose some hidden, potentially dangerous truths, and can have an emotional impact. Pip discovers that it is not always easy to ‘do’ right and that even with good intentions the impact on the people involved can be devastating.
Trauma and mental health
This season of the show also addresses the psychological trauma from the events of series one. Instead of implying Pip has fully healed from her experience in the first series the show acknowledges the long-term impact that this sort of situation could have on her.
Loyalty and friendship
Love continues to be a key element as well as the bonds between people, from Pip and Ravi to her family members and friends, the value of trusting and supporting each other during tough situations is a key part of the second series.
Cinematography and Atmosphere

I would have to say that the visual aspects of Season 2 are some of the strongest I have seen.
Cinematography gives an atmospheric sense of dread and tension that supports the mystery that is being solved. Gloomy and darker lighting throughout along with shadow filled, dramatic scenery from the locations helps to enhance the suspense. Tight close up work from the camera creates suspense by intensifying the emotions of the actors as well as the audience as key discoveries are made.
The production designers utilize vivid story telling through visuals in dramatic settings for key scenes and in creating suspense for new clues to be discovered. These images combined with excellent sound create an experience where the audience cannot get enough.
Season 2 vs the Book
For any readers or fans of Holly Jackson’s books, it is obvious that there must be a question as to how the adaptation holds up to the actual book. While Season 2 of ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ shares many similarities to the previous book, ‘Good Girl, Bad Blood’, there are some slight differences which were necessary for the book’s transition to television. While some scenes are elongated, there are still many instances of modification; some plots are changed to fit better within the world of the television series.Maybe what’s most amazing is that the similarity to the tone of the novel is undeniable, showing the faithful adaptation. The soul of the novel, which appeals the most to readers: the mystery, the sentimentality and the characters, haven’t been lost at all. Even with the adaptation, there is still the possibility to go through again with a reader who has read it and knows what to expect. For a new reader however, the story on the TV series will surely be unexpected.
Why Fans Are Loving Season 2
So, audiences have welcomed season two for several reasons. First, it is a thoroughly gripping mystery to watch until the very end, second the development of Pip’s character is a wonderful anchor for the whole plot, the chemistry of the cast is wonderful as it continues to carry the piece higher, fourth, there are suspense, drama and development of characters, without letting one slide away. The season is seen by some fans to have some maturity to it despite being much more somber than the first, and it hasn’t discarded any elements from season one that were good.
Could there be a 3rd season?
It’s clear that fans have already started getting excited over a possible 3 rd season of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder after the immense success of Season 2. In fact, there are plenty of ideas available for a 3 rd season because the producer already has Holly Jackson’s third book in the series. “As Good As Dead,” as fans are referring to it, has been described as the darkest book of the series so far. This would clearly put Pip into much greater danger than she has already been in the previous two seasons of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Official announcement will likely be longer to hear than the plan of producers based on response and availability.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season two takes everything from the first season and uses it to create something so brilliant. It includes everything in the way of gripping mystery, great acting, meaningful character development, and the best suspense ever.
Emma Myers truly proves why Pip Fitz-Amobi is the most memorable young detective character on screen in recent years, paired with a wonderful Ravi Singh character played by Zain Iqbal she makes the story emotionally gripping, entertaining and absolutely addicting.
So, is A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season 2 the show for you? Well if you’re interested in mystery dramas, YA thrillers or just a character-focused story then the answer is a solid yes. It adds even more emotional complexity, an interesting new mystery, and will keep fans wanting more of the beloved characters.
Whether you’ve read Holly Jackson’s novels or you’re a newcomer to the story through the screen, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season two is one story that’s definitely a thrilling, suspenseful and impossible watch.
